In an impressive display of logistical planning and endurance, Oliver Kern, the managing director of the global ski portal Skiresort.info, has officially set his tenth world record. On March 17, 2026, Kern successfully navigated 22 distinct 8-person chairlifts within the span of a single day, traversing multiple world-class ski areas in the Austrian Alps.
The challenge, which began at 8:00 a.m. amidst 30 cm of fresh powder, spanned four major regions: Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, Steinplatte, SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser–Brixental, and the KitzSki resort. By leveraging these modern, high-capacity lift systems, Kern was able to cover significant ground, totaling 58.5 km of travel and 16,359 meters of vertical ascent throughout the day.
The record was finalized at 3:46 p.m. upon reaching the Hartkaser 8-person chairlift at Pass Thurn. Following the achievement, Kern opted for a victory lap on the same lift before concluding the day with celebrations at the PanoramaAlm and Sonnalm. According to reports from Skiresort.info, the feat proves that with strategic planning, skiers can maximize their time on the mountain by utilizing the modern, high-performance infrastructure now common in Austrian resorts.
Eight-person chairlifts represent some of the most advanced technology in the industry, capable of transporting up to 4,500 passengers per hour while offering features like weather-protective hoods and heated seats. For Kern, an extreme athlete who has visited over 1,000 ski resorts worldwide, this record is the latest in a career defined by extensive data collection and exploration, including an archive of over 25,000 ski passes and more than 8,400 individual lift rides.
