April 2026 has been a turbulent month for the global snow sports industry, marked by significant safety recalls, high-stakes legal proceedings, and celebrations of community engagement. According to reports compiled by PlanetSKI, these events underscore the diverse challenges and successes currently facing the sector.
Safety Alert: Head Ski Boot Recall
Head USA has issued a voluntary recall for approximately 1,890 pairs of high-end ski boots sold across North America between September 2015 and March 2026. The issue involves fluorescent yellow components in the shell and sole, which may spontaneously deteriorate and crack under pressure. While the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported no injuries to date, owners are advised to cease using these boots immediately and contact an authorized dealer for assistance.
Vail Resorts Litigation Update
A class-action lawsuit involving over 2,000 ski and snowboard instructors against Vail Resorts remains a focal point for the US industry. Originally filed in December 2020, the case alleges unfair labor practices, specifically citing uncompensated travel time between job sites, mandatory training, and equipment-related expenses. Vail Resorts has denied these allegations, maintaining that its payroll systems comply with all state and federal regulations.
Leadership Investigation in Croatia
The Croatian Alpine Ski Team is navigating a major leadership crisis. As reported by PlanetSKI, long-time director Vedran Pavlek has been arrested amid a corruption investigation led by the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime. The inquiry reportedly centers on the alleged misuse of approximately €30 million in funds. All parties involved are currently presumed innocent as the investigation proceeds.
Industry Initiatives and Competitions
On a more positive note, the Snowsport Industries of Great Britain (SIGB) announced the winner of its second annual competition. Matthew Davies, who purchased his Tecnica ski boots from Solutions4Feet in Bicester, won an all-inclusive luxury holiday to Big White Ski Resort in Canada. The initiative was designed to bolster support for local UK retailers. Additionally, VIP SKI has confirmed that Olympic racer and presenter Graham Bell will return to host a week-long holiday at Bear Lodge in Arc 1950 in March 2027.
