As the Australian ski industry prepares for the 2026 winter season, Charlotte Pass Snow Resort has reached a major milestone. According to reporting by SnowBrains, the resort's new Guthries Double Chairlift is now fully operational, with chairs actively circulating the line in anticipation of the upcoming season.

The completion of the lift, which involves the installation of seven towers, a top station operator hut, a bullwheel, and a tensioning system, marks a significant infrastructure upgrade for Australia's highest ski resort. The facility sits at an elevation of 1,765 meters (5,790 feet), a location known for its high-alpine environment.

Project Timeline and Challenges

The path to completion was not without obstacles. As noted by SnowBrains, the project was originally slated for a 2025 debut but was postponed due to an extended regulatory approvals process. Lucy Blyton-Gray, general manager of Charlotte Pass, previously stated that the delay was outside the resort's control, despite the collaborative efforts of the resort team and lift manufacturer Doppelmayr.

By March 2026, the construction team had finalized the core mechanical elements, including the cable splicing and chair attachments. With these technical phases now complete, the lift has moved into the testing and commissioning stage, ensuring it is ready for public use.

The addition of the Guthries chair is expected to offer immediate benefits to resort guests. By providing more direct access to the Guthries terrain, the lift aims to alleviate pressure on the resort's existing infrastructure, which often faces high demand during peak periods. Charlotte Pass, which traditionally relies on natural snowfall for its operations, is scheduled to open its doors to the public on June 20, 2026.
