The Mammoth Mountain community is grieving the loss of one of its most dedicated figures, Bernie Rosow. According to reporting by SnowBrains, Rosow passed away on April 23, 2026, while hiking Bloody Mountain with friends. He was 45 years old. His partner, Amber Feld, noted that his death was attributed to a heart-related health issue.

Born in Williamsville, Vermont, Rosow’s life was defined by an early and uncompromising passion for skiing. His youth was spent navigating various disciplines, including alpine racing, cross-country, and ski jumping. However, it was the freedom of the backcountry and building his own jumps in the woods that ultimately forged his career path.

Following his time in Vermont, Rosow headed west to the Alta Ski Area in Utah, where he prioritized skiing above traditional career milestones. His talent as a freerider was evident, marked by a notable fourth-place finish at the Aspen Open. Eventually, he settled in Mammoth, California, where he found a lifestyle that perfectly balanced his professional responsibilities with his love for the sport. By working overnight shifts as a snowcat operator, Rosow ensured he could spend his days riding the mountain he helped shape.

Friends and colleagues remember him as an elite athlete who remained deeply humble. Miles Clark of SnowBrains, who frequently documented time spent with Rosow, highlighted his effortless style and his reputation for being a "machine" in the mountains. His expertise was not limited to California; he traveled globally to chase winter, including multiple seasons in Australia and New Zealand.

Beyond his skiing accolades, Rosow was known for his kindness and his unique connection to nature. Colleagues recall stories of him rescuing wildlife, such as ducks stranded at high elevations, which he would bring home to rehabilitate with his son, Alexander. He is survived by his partner, Amber, and his son.

For those who knew him, Rosow’s legacy is not found in trophies or titles, but in the intentional life he built around his passion. He remains an inspirational figure who proved that a life dedicated to the mountains is a life well-lived.
