For many mountain enthusiasts, the chairlift is more than just a piece of infrastructure; it is a place of quiet reflection, shared conversation, and anticipation. According to InTheSnow, a British studio called SnowSwings is now bringing that specific mountain magic into residential and commercial spaces through bespoke, chairlift-inspired furniture.
Founded by Andrew Seddon, the company traces its origins to the Arctic, where Seddon worked as a dog sledding instructor. Watching chairlifts move rhythmically across the sky inspired the idea of recreating that sense of suspension in a domestic setting. Following discussions with his partner, Marco, the concept evolved from a nostalgic thought into a precise manufacturing project centered on durability and design.
Each swing is constructed from scratch in the United Kingdom, moving away from the common practice of repurposing vintage parts. This approach allows the team to ensure safety, comfort, and structural integrity. The swings feature precision-welded steel frames treated with a high-quality powder coating, available in a variety of RAL colors to suit different interior or exterior aesthetics. Where wood is incorporated into the design, the studio exclusively uses FSC-certified timber, reflecting a commitment to responsible sourcing.
Beyond the workshop, the appeal of these swings lies in their ability to transform a space. In a home, they act as a conversation piece or a place to relax by the fire. In hospitality settings—such as ski resorts, chalets, or cafés—they provide a striking visual landmark that encourages guests to pause and linger. Because each piece is made-to-order, they can be customized with specific branding or finishes, making them an effective tool for experiential marketing and events.
By prioritizing local British fabrication and a made-to-order model, SnowSwings minimizes its environmental footprint while supporting local craftsmanship. The design philosophy emphasizes longevity, creating pieces meant to be maintained and passed down rather than replaced. Whether installed in a quiet courtyard or a bustling hotel lobby, these swings serve as a functional bridge between modern living and the enduring rhythm of the mountains.
