While many skiers pack away their gear as spring flowers bloom, Val Thorens continues to operate at full capacity. According to a report by PlanetSKI, the resort—situated at 2,300m with peaks up to 3,200m—remains one of the most snow-sure environments in the Alps, with operations scheduled to continue until May 3rd, 2026.

Vincent Lalanne, Director of the Val Thorens Tourist Office, notes that the resort has successfully pivoted to embrace the late season. With occupancy rates currently hovering around 91%, the resort has moved beyond the traditional winter window, attracting thousands of visitors for high-altitude spring sessions. This influx includes a growing number of American travelers, who are finding that the travel time to the French Alps is increasingly competitive with domestic flights to the US Rockies.

The end-of-season calendar is packed with events designed to keep the atmosphere lively. Highlights include the Cosmic Mountain Festival (April 17th–19th) and the long-standing 'Dutchweek' (April 25th–May 2nd), which draws thousands of visitors. For those looking for charitable engagement, the AJ Bell 3 Valley Rally continues to support the Snowcamp charity.

Infrastructure remains a focal point for the resort. The Caron 3200 area, which faced significant operational hurdles upon its debut, is now fully functional, offering visitors a panoramic restaurant, wine bar, and rooftop terrace. Looking ahead, the resort is expanding its footprint further with the Plateau du Cairn development, a project set to increase the resort’s bed capacity by 2,500 units.

Despite the high volume of skiers, savvy visitors can still find quiet terrain. PlanetSKI suggests exploring the Orelle sector for thinner crowds early in the day. For those seeking a more refined experience, the Hotel Pashmina offers a high-end brunch option, providing a luxury retreat from the busier piste-side dining areas.
