As the winter season draws to a close in Maine’s Carrabassett Valley, Sugarloaf Resort is entering its final days of operation. According to data provided by OnTheSnow, the resort is currently reporting a base depth of 12 inches as of April 22. With the official closing date set for April 26, skiers and riders have a limited window remaining to enjoy the mountain's final spring turns.

Operational capacity has been scaled back to reflect the late-season conditions. Currently, 2 out of the resort's 15 lifts are servicing 11 of the 176 total trails. These 65 acres of open terrain offer a final opportunity to experience Sugarloaf’s unique high-alpine environment, which is known for being the only lift-serviced above-treeline skiing in the Eastern United States.

For those planning a last-minute trip, it is important to note that conditions are currently categorized as variable. Recent weather reports indicate minimal new snowfall, with a light dusting of approximately 0.5 inches forecasted for the near term. The resort’s standard operational protocols remain in effect, with all snow reporting sourced directly from Sugarloaf resort management.

Sugarloaf remains a significant destination for East Coast enthusiasts, boasting a vertical drop of 2,820 feet and an average annual snowfall of 200 inches. While the current terrain is limited, the resort’s infrastructure—which includes 12 lifts, four terrain parks, and a Superpipe—defines its status as one of Maine's premier mountain destinations.

Traveling to the resort requires some logistical planning. While the Sugarloaf Regional Airport is located just a 10-minute drive from the mountain, international travelers typically arrive via Boston Logan International Airport, which is approximately 250 miles or a four-hour drive away. Regional transit options are available, including train service to Portland and bus connections via Greyhound from Portland, Bangor, and Waterville.
