Launched in 2011 by Dusty Baldwin and the crew from Alta’s Powder House, the event was designed to push back against the increasing ego and high-performance intensity of modern ski culture. Participants were rewarded for style and positive energy, often receiving cheap whiskey or hot dogs as prizes. Yet, the rapid growth driven by the Ikon Pass and social media transformed this local inside joke into a logistical headache.
According to reports, the sheer volume of attendees led to significant issues, including hour-long traffic delays in the canyon and parking shortages. Safety became a primary concern, forcing organizers to ban dangerous behaviors like chairlift jumping and public nudity.
